What Qualifies You for Student Loan Forgiveness?

As far as Wyoming loan forgiveness programs are concerned, the basic requirement is that you either have to be a licensed veterinarian or a healthcare provider. Other requirements vary, which we’ll discuss later. If you don’t tick those two conditions, you could still qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which requires you to make 120 monthly payments, while working as a full-time employee for a qualifying employer.

Let’s have a look at both.

Program: Wyoming Healthcare Professional Loan Repayment Program

  • Amount: Up to $30,000 per year (for 3 years)
  • Description: There are certain communities in Wyoming, where there’s a shortage of licensed medical professionals. The purpose of the Wyoming Healthcare Professional Loan Repayment program is to recruit and retain healthcare providers in those communities, by offering them attractive loan repayments as an incentive in return for a minimum of 3 years of practice. Under this program, dentists and physicians can receive up to $30,000 annually (over the course of 3 years), whereas other licensed healthcare providers can get up to $20,000 per year.
  • Requirements: For starters, there are two basic requirements to be eligible for this program — that the applicant must be practicing full-time at a qualified area in Wyoming, and providing direct care to patients qualifying for the Medicare, Medicaid, and Kid Care programs. In addition, the applicant must come into a formal agreement with the Wyoming Health Department that binds them to the terms and conditions of the program. Last, but not the least, the applicant must not be receiving funds from another loan repayment program.
