What Employee Benefits Is Amazon Known For?

The specific benefits that Amazon employees receive vary based on their full-time or part-time status as well as by their location. Employees who work in either of the two headquarters based in the United States, for example, have access to several additional benefits that are not available for fulfillment center employees and others. Child Adoption Support is also available. Many major corporations offer financial assistance for full-time workers who adopt children. Amazon covers all of the court costs, attorney fees and travel expenses for both domestic and international adoptions. Amazon goes a step further to provide leave to full-time employees who have recently adopted a child. The also offers a “Leave Share” program, which enables its qualified employees to essentially share their paid time off hours if their partner or spouse does not receive a similar benefit from his or her employer.

Amazon is a dog-friendly workplace. Some employers allow employees to bring a well-trained dog to work from time-to-time. At Amazon, employees working at the corporate headquarters are permitted to bring their dogs to work every day.

The company also offers on-site benefits including a juice bar and complimentary breakfast on Monday mornings, free snacks throughout the week, daily catered lunch, an on-site fitness center, on-site shuttle, and reimbursement of transit fees

How Does Amazon Help with Student Loan Assistance?

Amazon has not yet announced plans to offer student loan assistance as a benefit to its employees, but it does offer student tuition assistance as a benefit.

Not only employees consider it a top perk while applying, but many companies are also looking to include this benefit in their package. However, according to SourceMedia Research, only 8 percent of companies offer this benefit.

How Do Amazon Employee Benefits Change for Different Jobs?

In many corporations, benefits dramatically improve as you climb higher up the ladder. For example, warehouse workers in most companies do not receive stock benefits. Amazon maintains an egalitarian benefits system, which means that benefits are offered uniformly across the company regardless of the position that you hold. All full-time employees receive access to the same health, life, dental and disability insurance plans. As is the case with most employers, full-time employee benefits differ from part-time employee benefits. However, Amazon’s benefits for part-time employees are generally superior to those offered by other companies. How Has Amazon Improved Its Benefits Package Over Time?

In 1994, Jeff Bezos started Cadabra in his garage. The following year, the name was officially changed to Amazon. In 1995, Amazon had 11 employees, and Bezos moved the company out of his garage and into a professional environment. By 1997, Amazon went public, and its growth has continued to be astounding since that time.

In its early years, Amazon offered basic benefits to its employees, such as health insurance, paid time off and a retirement plan. It has progressively improved its core benefits package as well as its compensation plan.

For example, prior to 2015, Amazon only offered six weeks of paid maternity leave to new mothers. It expanded this to include parental leave for all biological and adoptive parents. Another example of its efforts to make a more inclusive benefits package occurred several years ago when Amazon extended its health insurance benefits to cover domestic partners when specific guidelines are met. The more unique benefits at select Amazon workplaces, such as happy hour on Friday afternoons, have evolved gradually as Amazon has continuously tried to improve workplace culture.

Amazon maintains a rigorous hiring process across all levels, and it also is known for gender equality in the hiring process.
